Hotel in a scenic building

Once designed as a mansion, later it became an office: this landmark monument from 1891, built in a rich eclectic style.

This building fits seamlessly into Middelburg of that time. Because at the end of the 19th century, the town was buzzing. Thanks to the Sloedam, Walcheren is finally connected with the mainland of the Netherlands and the railroad line is opened. The nearby railway station dates from the same period and the Kanaal through Walcheren has just been completed.

With the arrival of various educational institutions and the court of law, Middelburg remains - just as in the centuries before - the administrative center of Zeeland. A lot of industry also established itself there, such as the iron foundry on the site right next to the hotel. Thanks to the growing prosperity, many beautiful villas arose along the canals and in the town. This gem is a fine example. Thanks to Copper & Co this inspiring period in our history will also remain alive.
